Kansas City, MO? Some place near the airport. Please read?

Me and two friends are going to Kanrocksas. One of my friends (A) already lives in KC, my other friend (B) lives in Denver. B and I are both flying to KC. Friend A is/may be working the day we fly in and apparently she works/lives an hour from the airport....she had told me the earliest she could pick me up from the airport was 7pm. But, friend B and I can get there whenever we want and take a cab somewhere to hang out for the day.....I was wanting to know if there was some place near the airport (or up to a $30 cab ride away) that we could just go and hangout at? We are both into craft beer, or shopping, or just a cool neighborhood where we could stoll, get a good bit to eat or something. Any ideas or should we just look for later flights and just get in when our friend can pick us up?
